Part of the Native Vote campaign is the training of citizen advocates to help keep our elections free and clean and to assist local community organizers in Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts.

Native Vote Training Curriculum

TRAINING DESCRIPTION
NCAI Native Vote will be providing access to Wellstone Action’s native voter engagement trainings (NVES). These trainings are designed specifically to address the unique legal status of tribes in tribal, federal, state level elections and provide non-partisan training to Indian Country for (1) creating voter engagement plans, (2) registering voters, and (3) electing leaders that best represent the interests and values of Native constituencies.

NVES is a 1½ day training session and custom curriculum on voter education and mobilization Native Nonpartisan Voter Engagement Manual for participants to use in their communities. NVES is designed to train organizations and individuals in the basic skills of voter engagement; assist them in creating voter engagement plans for their communities and assessing those plans; help them build collaborative, resource-sharing networks with other organizations; and ultimately lead to increased voter turn-out.

NVES Training Session and Curriculum - teaches skills on planning and executing effective voter engagement efforts.  It focuses on planning, message development, registering and organizing Native voters, engaging with candidates, protecting the right to vote, recruiting allies, candidate accountability, and issue advocacy.  Our trainers teach participants how to link their organization’s core mission to voter outreach, and show them how to create a voter engagement plan for their own communities.

Native Nonpartisan Voter Engagement Manual - The 130-page Manual is designed for participants to take back to their tribal communities after the training.  This NVES resource includes legal guidelines, information on how to develop and execute voter plans, assessment tools, and examples of successful voter mobilization.
